Co-Chairs include Flint Fowler, David Jolley, Sue Rector, and Ali Jean Wells representing BGCSTL and PGA REACH Gateway. Collectively, this team of powerhouses has an accomplished track record of getting things done.

Known as “The Wizard of Oz,” Smith combined athletic ability with acrobatic skill to become one of the greatest defensive shortstops of all time.

The 13-time Gold Glove Award winner redefined the position in his nearly two decades of work with the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals, setting major league records for assists, double plays and total chances.

Smith retired in 1996, the same year the Cardinals retired his number, and in his 19 seasons compiled a .262 batting average, 2,460 hits, 580 stolen bases, and was named to 15 All-Star teams. Smith set the following major league records for his position: most assists (8,375), most double plays (1,590), most total chances accepted (12,624), most years with 500 or more assists (8) and most years leading the league in assists and chances accepted (8).

Beyond his achievements on the field, Ozzie’s commitment to giving back to the community has been equally remarkable. As a devoted advocate for the game of golf, Ozzie has been actively involved with PGA REACH Gateway Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to positively impacting the lives of youth, military veterans, and diverse populations through golf.

Ozzie’s involvement with PGA REACH Gateway, since its inception in 2007, has allowed him to leverage his passion for golf to inspire and empower individuals of all ages. Today, Ozzie continues to make a difference both on and off the field, leaving an indelible mark on the world of sports and philanthropy. Whether dazzling fans with his trademark backflips or championing causes close to his heart, Ozzie Smith remains a beloved figure whose impact transcends the game of baseball.

Ali Wells, born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, is the Executive Director of the Gateway PGA and PGA REACH Gateway Foundation.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing & Professional Golf Management from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) in 2009. Since, Ali has gained 12 years of experience as a Class A PGA Professional and has worked for the Gateway PGA in different capacities since 2012. Ali is a passionate, driven and resourceful executive with significant experience in association and non-profit operations. She has a substantiated ability to lead diverse groups of stakeholders with a proven record of fostering organizational growth through increasing operational efficiency and gross revenue. Ali’s work has led to numerous achievements including helping the Gateway PGA to its first national award, the 2017 Herb Graffis Award, and being inducted into the UCCS PGA Golf Management Hall of Fame.

Flint

Fowler

Flint Fowler earned his B.A. in Psychology and Black Studies from Washington University, St. Louis in 1980 and continued his education at the university for another year to earn an M.A. in Psychology with an emphasis on minority mental health.

Flint immediately put his education to use by taking impressive leadership roles in organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America Greater St. Louis Area Council, Saint Louis University’s Upward Bound Program, Operation Teamwork and INROADS/St. Louis. In 1997, Flint earned his Ph.D. in Education at Saint Louis University while also completing his first year at the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club of St. Louis, where he currently serves as Executive Director.

In the past ten years, Flint has brought Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club of St. Louis (HHBGC) to a new level of professionalism and organization while strengthening its focus on the youth it serves. HHBGC offers a wide variety of programs and services for youth ages 6-18 targeted toward educational, emotional, physical and social development. Flint has expanded these programs and services to include dental and eye care for members. He has also recently led the opening of a second Club in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood by forging partnerships with BJC HealthCare and the Washington University School of Medicine.

Flint has received numerous awards for his service to HHBGC as well as his other contributions to the St. Louis community. He currently serves on boards for the St. Louis Public Schools, Saint Louis University School of Pharmacy, Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Mayor’s Commission on Family and Youth, the St. Louis Sports Commission and the WUSTL Neighbor’s Council. He also regularly volunteers with the local Boy Scouts of America and Fair St. Louis.

Sue

Rector

Sue has served on the Foundation Board of Directors for over a decade including five years as the Chair.

Rector currently is the co-chair for Ozzie Smith’s Annual Gala and Pro-Am, which benefits Foundation’s work in our community to serve our youth, military and inclusion pillars. 

Prior to retirement Sue spent 30 years as a practicing Speech/Language Pathologist. She knew retirement would be another great opportunity, volunteering and giving back to her community.

Sue volunteered in a leadership role for the 100th PGA Championship in 2018, working with the PGA Staff and the Bellerive Team. Additionally she has volunteered with the Ascension Charity Classic since its inception in 2021.

David

Jolley

David Jolley, a native of St. Louis, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University.

His professional career has been in the fields of sales, marketing and development. Most notably, David served as a director of development for Washington University, St. Louis for 28 years. During this time in the alumni and advancement field, David worked with school-based programs, University centers and the athletics department with the focus on furthering fundraising efforts, planning and implementing major campaign initiatives and coordinating event management.

Now retired, David has maintained his professional outreach as a board member for Bellefontaine Cemetery and PGA REACH Gateway.

On a personal note, David is a member of the Metro St. Louis Senior Golf Association and the St. Louis Men’s Senior Baseball League.
